A fun edition of the Chuck Long Podcast this week. We start off talking about grilling and then get to the win over Iowa State. What does he think of the play of Cade McNamara two games into his Iowa career? What about the adjustment that the Iowa offense made to running more counters in the ground game and how successful it was. Should Jaziun Patterson be the Hawkeyes top running back? Then we look ahead to Western Michigan, discuss the Mel Tucker situation and how to handle that as a coach, and the Big Ten West and the lack of really good quarterback play in the division.

Hi Tom, I really enjoy these podcasts with you and Chuck but I’m really disappointed that Chuck didn’t know that the pick six made the score 17-3. This reveals that he’s not really taking the time to even watch the highlights, let alone the games! Castro’s pick six didn’t break a tie game; it wasn’t 13-13 at that time. Chuck is going to need to do better in the future or I’m not listening to him because I’m always thinking that he will provide insight to the game and that his evaluation matters! If he’s not ready, simply postpone the podcast until he has time to at least review the highlights as aforementioned. Otherwise, it’s just a other fake talking head, and we have enough of those types in sports media.
Love the podcast. Is there any correlation between Doyle leaving as the strength-and-conditioning coach and the poor offensive/defensive line play we’ve seen for the last few seasons? It seems to me that Iowa just isn’t doing the job it used to do in developing players. They’re getting man-handled by the opposition – not just the big boys (PSU).
