The Hawkeye Report Podcast was back at 2 Dogs Pub on Sunday for a game watch and then we tried to make some sense of exactly what’s going on with the Hawkeye Basketball team after they fell to Ohio State. We were joined by former Hawk Kenyon Murray to break down the loss to the Buckeyes and try to figure out if Iowa can snap out of their funk that has resulted in losses in four of the their last five contests.

I’ve been following Iowa and I don’t believe they are a top 20 team. They are certainly a good team and the starting five can compete but there are a myriad of issues and some that you cannot coach. Iowa has only beaten two top 20 teams this year; Mich St and Purdue twice. And in the Mich St wins Valentine was only a shadow of himself primarily due to injury / surgery. The Hawks lack a bench, a true clutch leader who wants the ball at the end of the game, poor defense, poor offensive decisions, ie. not using Woody enough inside to create space for Jok & Uthoff outside, and opponents who are hungry, with the eye-of-the -tiger, and since the last Indiana game have used brute strength and lay, hang, and hold Woody and anyone else who is in the paint. Woody and Uthoff particularly appear exhausted, (Ohio St.) and have lost the desire to adapt to the aggressive tactics applied by their opponents. I predicted Iowa to drop all of their remaining games after the Penn St loss. Iowa will still go to the dance but will be out in the first round. The NIT would be a better place for this team. Indiana 15-3; Mich ST & Wisc 13-5; MD 12-6; and Mich, Ohio St, Purdue, and Iowa 11-7…
